Thursday, July 4 2019 – The lighting of the torch of the XVIII Pan-American and Parapan American Games “Lima 2019” took place at the Citadel of Machu Picchu, Cuzco.
From the city of Mexico came the Pan-American torch that represents the beginning of the activities prior to the games. The ceremony was very emotional and participated the President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra, the mayor of Lima Jorge Munoz, the President of the Organizing Committee of Lima 2019 Carlos Neuhaus, the President of Panam Sports Neven Ilic, the Mayor of Machu Picchu, Darwin Baca between other important personalities.
In Machu Picchu, a symbolic theatrical staging was carried out that referred to the old chasqui relief of the Tahuantinsuyo postal system. Then he arrived in Sacsayhuamán where he toured the main streets of Cusco.
The route of the torch will cross cities of the Mountains, Jungle & Coast: Cusco (July 4), Puno (July 5), Moquegua (July 6), Arequipa (July 7), Ica (July 9), Huancayo (July 11) , Huanuco (July 12), Tarapoto (July 16), Bagua Grande (July 17), Piura (July 19), Chiclayo (July 20), Cajamarca (July 21), Trujillo (July 22), Huaraz (July 23), Callao (July 25) & Lima (July 26).
The Pan American Games Lima 2019 will take place from July 26 to August 11. The opening ceremony will be held at the National Stadium and will be held in 14 districts of Lima and Callao, bringing together 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from all over the Americas.
