June 7 to July 13 Exhibition “The Mother of the Ibos” by the artist Lastenia Canayo.
The artist Lastenia Canayo or Pecon Quena (native name), “the one who calls the colors”, opens the doors of her imaginary, showing in this way a significant and important part of the Shipibo-Conibo worldview, inviting us to meet the ibos, tutelary beings with whom they interact and coexist, thus establishing the bonds of reciprocity and respect, as well as punishment in case of a bad action. Lastenia executes multiple representations, in a multidisciplinary way, of these beings under anthropomorphic forms and with the attributes of the elements they protect and of which they are mediators. In this way he illustrates and gives life to the stories and stories that are also part of his literary production and that constitute this intangible heritage.
The Shipibo architect thus establishes a narrative that appeals to collective cultural memory, not only through paintings, embroideries, carvings or ceramics, but through his artistic work has been commissioned to capture the stories of his own Ethnicity, with the premise of maintaining the balance between the human being and the environment, balance that has been lost by the hand of modern man.
